It's that time of year again.
And no, I'm not talking about pumpkin spice.
It's fall racing season!
By now, most of the hot, sweaty training runs of the summer are behind you. (Or the cold winter runs if you're down under).
Even though you've been following your training plan for months, if you are like most runners, this is the time the doubt sets in.
Did I do enough?
Can I really run my goal race pace?
What should I be thinking about that I don't even know I should be thinking about?
For every runner, the answers to these questions are going to be different.
Your situation is going to be unique to you.
Sure, you can seek out generic answers down the rabbit hole of the internet. Or maybe have Chat GPT reassuringly tell you that "you are not broken" with a bullet point list of all the ways you are amazing (just like everyone else).
Or you can just give me a call and I'll give you the unbiased truth.
This fall, I've decided to open my calendar for just 10 coaching calls.
I've never offered this before, but I'm always looking for ways to help runners who need it the most.
This is open to any runner, whether you are a coaching client of mine or not, who wants an efficient way to get personalized advice before their big goal race.
Snag your spot now and schedule when it works for you.
You've already invested so much in your training. Make sure that you don't let last minute questions get in the way of your dreams.
psst...I'll be sharing this offer later today on Instagram to my 62K followers, so grab your spot before they are gone!

Q:
I recently ran my first marathon and I'm hooked! I also am very active with CrossFit and I really don't want to give it up. Can I do both and get better at the marathon?
A:
Congrats on your first marathon!
CrossFit can be a part of your overall fitness plan, but if you truly want to reach your potential with the marathon, you will have to be strategic.
CrossFit is a demanding workout that blends strength, power, explosiveness, and cardio. It can be a great activity to incorporate in-between marathon cycles, but it's typically too intense and not specific enough to the marathon to include when you are in the 3 months before your race.
Marathoners should build endurance and cardiovascular fitness on the run as much as possible.
Strength and power are developed with weights, plyometrics, and sprints, but CrossFit sessions are often so intense that you are too sore and tired to run well the next day. That might be okay if you just have an easy run scheduled, but you will be stealing speed and power from your runs (where you need it most).
Now, if your goal is to be a hybrid athlete that's good at several different modalities of fitness, you don't nessarily need to cut back on CrossFit.
As long as you know what you might be giving up.

Eventually, if you run long enough, you’ll have knee problems. At least, that’s what some people say.
The truth is running is actually quite good for your knees, but try telling that to a runner with knee pain. After all, it’s called “runner’s knee” for a reason.
It’s clear that our knees can be a weak point, especially as we age. So what can we do to ensure that we can run pain-free as long as possible?
Let’s find out.
On encore run of the Planted Runner Podcast, I’m joined by doctor of physical therapy, Katherine Campbell.
You’ll learn:
- Why the structure of our knees can lead to pain, despite our best efforts,
- How we can strengthen our entire body to avoid knee pain in the first place, and
- She’ll even reveal how to improve with your lunges and squats, even if they cause you pain right now.
And of course, don’t forget to stay tuned all the way to the end of the conversation for another Mental Strength Minute. Fortify your mind in 60 seconds or less.
