well, I didn't plan for this

It's probably not a big surprise if I admit that I'm a planner.

I theme my workdays and Wednesdays are for private coaching calls and writing this newsletter.

It was not in my plan for my home internet to decide to throw a tantrum on newsletter day.

After spending way too long troubleshooting, I waved the white flag.

And like any good runner who can roll with the unexpected, I packed up the laptop and headed to a nearby coffee shop...

...where the internet was out.

Not to turn me away, the kind barista offered to let me use her phone's hotspot to allow me to work. (why didn't I think of that at home?)

Only problem now is I've got exactly 20 minutes before I need to pick up my teenager from track practice.

I thought about just skipping a week.

(I know y'all would be kind and understand.)

But I don't want to skip. Today is newsletter day.

So instead of stressing myself out to make this issue "perfect," I'm going to give you what I've got today.

Because showing up with consistency matters (and I have really good news to share below!)

And perfection doesn't exist.

Hmmm...sort of sounds like running, doesn't it?

Make those long, cold runs more fun with audio books!

Ready to plan your 2026 running schedule?

I’ll explain how to plan 2026 to be optimized for all your running goals from 5k to the marathon.

You’ll learn:

  • what happens when you don’t make a strategic plan for your goals,
  • how and when to mix up your distances and your training, and
  • I’ll explore what a well-planned yearly calendar looks like for marathoners, half marathoners, and 5k or 10k racers.

This episode is going to be extremely helpful to plan out a whole year of running, but remember, you don’t have to do this alone.

I still have a few more spots on the PR Team and you get a major discount when you sign up for a full year.

Imagine having the whole year sketched out for you, while allowing flexibility for life. Each cycle blends seamlessly to the next with plenty of time for fitness building, recovery, and room to try new things.

Spots are limited, so join us today!

In 1978, a single publication dramatically changed the way people treat injuries. And to this day, it's still one of the most common pieces of advice, which also happens to be absolutely wrong. In the “Sports Medicine Book,” Dr. Gabe Mirkin explained the acronym he invented called RICE which stands for Rest, Ice, Elevation, Compression. And for the next four decades, coaches and practitioners around the world have prescribed the RICE method as the definitive way to heal any kind of injury....

There's this romantic notion out there that we should be always be perfectly in tune with our bodies. We're told by the influencers to "listen to our body" to know exactly how to train, eat, and recover. As if there is some clear, gentle voice saying, "of course I'd rather have brussels sprouts than french fries!" or "mile 23 of the marathon feels incredible!" (if that's your inner voice, I'm impressed. Skip ahead.) If it were really that simple, that you could just listen to your body, the...

What if I told you that there was a way to get faster, to improve your running form, quicken your feet, better prepare for a race, and have some fun, all in less than 90 seconds of work? I’d say sign me up. The good news that such a thing actually exists. It’s called the stride. Or striders, or accelerations, or stride-outs. Lots of names for the same awesome skill. But what it’s not is a sprint or a surge. On Instagram this week, I shared this reel talking about the difference. (And also...
